Medical centre cleaning checklist for practice managers
Patients judge a practice by the waiting room and the bathroom long before they see a clinician. Use this zone-by-zone checklist to see what your cleaning should cover - and what to ask your cleaning provider.
Why clinic cleaning is different
Clinic cleaning is about infection control as much as appearance. That means separating clinical and public areas, using the right disinfectants for the right contact time, and making sure nothing moves between zones - from cloths and mops to the cleaner's own routine.
- Clinical rooms and public areas cleaned as separate zones
- TGA-listed disinfectants for clinical surfaces, left on for the contact time on the label
- Colour-coded cloths and mops (red toilets, yellow bathroom basins and clinical areas, blue general, green kitchens)
- High-touch points every visit
- Clinical and sharps waste never handled by cleaners

Questions to ask your cleaning provider
- Do you use TGA-listed disinfectants, and do your cleaners follow the contact times?
- How do you stop cross-contamination between clinical rooms, bathrooms and the kitchen?
- Are all cleaners police-checked, insured and inducted to our practice?
- Do we get a written, room-by-room scope we can show at accreditation?
- How often do you inspect the work, and do we get a report?
- What happens if something is missed - and how quickly is it fixed?
If your current provider can't answer these clearly, it's worth getting a second quote.

After hours, around your sessions
Most practices have us after the last patient so rooms are ready for the morning. Daytime touch-ups (bathrooms, waiting room, touchpoints) can be added during busy periods.
